Obituary: William G. Cauley, A.K.A. "The Commander," Lifetime Member of VFW of Peabody

Member of the Italian-American Club of Peabody

William G. Cauley, 83, beloved husband of the late Pauline (Chigas) Cauley, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday October 26, 2014, while in the comforting presence of his family.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John J. and Honora A. (Hegarty) Cauley. He grew up in Charlestown, and attended Don Bosco High School in Boston. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, and served during the Korean War.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Cauley of Peabody and Michael Cauley of Salem; a daughter, Angela Cauley & her husband Tim Dick of Groveland; his daughter-in-law, Donna Cauley of Salem; six grandchildren, Alanna Cauley-Jones of AR, Brittany Cauley of AZ, Shauna Cauley of Everett, Garrett Cauley of Salem, Bryan Cauley and Kerri Cauley both of Hamilton; a great-grandson Atticus Jones; a sister Ann Cauley of Southern Pines, NC, and many nieces and nephews whose company he always enjoyed. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by two brothers John and James Cauley and oldest son and namesake William G. Cauley, Jr.


Mr. Cauley worked as a Mechanic with Sylvania on Sylvan St. in Danvers as a mechanic where he met his wife of almost 50 years Pauline, during his career he also worked for Boston Machinery in Peabody and Cooper, Weymouth, Peterson in Maine. Most recently, for the last 13 years, he continued working, after his retirement, part time as a Parts Inspector with Jumpsource until earlier this year.

Bill, AKA “The Commander” was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Peabody, the Italian-American Club of Peabody, where he enjoyed many strong friendships and maintained and active social life, he was also an avid coin collector. He cherished family, and enjoyed family vacations and cruises all over the Caribbean, Bermuda and Hawaii.


Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday at 11:45 AM for his Funeral Service at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
