Peabody Bid for RMV Rejected

The owner of the property at 535 Lowell St. had submitted a proposal following the branch closure in Danvers earlier this summer.

PEABODY, MA – A bid to bring a North Shore branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles to Peabody has been rejected.

According to the Salem News, the owner of the property at 535 Lowell St. submitted a proposal following the closure of the Danvers branch earlier this summer.

Judith Riley, a spokesperson for MassDot, said in an email that the Peabody bid was turned down, as well as a proposal submitted by a property owner in Beverly, because they did not meet the RMV's requirements.

The registry will now reevaluate its stipulations for a new branch, including possibly scaling back the necessary required space, according to Riley.

Following the closure in Danvers, customers are using the Revere, Wilmington, Lawrence and Haverhill RMV sites.
