Peabody Considers Application For Adult Store

City Council will hear the proposal by Scott MacGregor of South Hadley on Thursday.

PEABODY, MA -- A South Hadley man will go before Peabody City Council Thursday to apply for a special permit to open an Adam & Eve adult store. Scott MacGregor wants to open the 5,900-square-foot store in a shopping plaza on Route 1 south that currently has a Workout World fitness center, Namco Pool and Mass Bay Hockey Center. The store would sell a range of adult products, including vibrators, handcuffs, bondage tape, collars and leashes.

"These types of stores are very difficult to get open because the people who show up at these hearings are under the mistaken belief that it will bring prostitution and child pornography," MacGregor told the Lynn Item, which first reported this story. "It’s ridiculous. We are a very upscale type of store. Our customers are from all walks of life: blue collar workers, lawyers and politicians."
