Peabody Council On Aging Director Honored As 'Unsung Heroine'
State Rep. Thomas Walsh nominated Carolyn Wynn for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women's annual award.

PEABODY, MA — Carolyn Wynn was honored as an Unsung Heroine for her outstanding care, compassion, and service to seniors in Peabody and across the North Shore during a Massachusetts Commission of the Status of Women ceremony in Boston.
State Rep. Thomas Walsh (D-Peabody) nominated the executive director of the Peabody Council on Aging the award.
"Today was an opportunity to thank Carolyn for her hard work, dedication, and commitment to our community," Walsh said of the Friday event. "Every day, Carolyn and her team have a tremendous, positive impact on thousands of Peabody residents, especially during these last couple of years.

"When the pandemic forced the isolation of many elders, Carolyn spearheaded the effort to ensure that meals were delivered, transportation to appointments was provided, and senior citizens remained connected to essential services."
The Salem State alumna's career began with an internship at the Peabody Council on Aging. She has served as executive director since 2008 and also worked as a volunteer coordinator for the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center for 14 years.

"I am extremely thankful to be awarded this honor," Wynn said. "I am incredibly grateful to have such a wonderful and dedicated staff and volunteers helping us fulfill our mission serving the seniors in Peabody."
Wynn was honored for coordinating hundreds of senior events, increasing the number of buses to provide greater access and delivering expanded services in tax-filing assistance and COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
Presented annually by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, Unsung Heroine honorees are women "who don't make the news, but make the difference."
