Peabody Police Arrest Man Wielding Crowbar Near Park

PEABODY, MA -- Peabody Police arrested a man on Saturday after he threatened people in a park with a crowbar. Nolan R. Morel, 26, of Lynn, faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.

According to the Peabody Police log, police received a call at 2:26 pm about a man driving aggressively in the area of 7 James Street. When parents whose children were playing in a nearby park approached the man, he allegedly got out of the car with a crow bar.

Police located the car at Tanners Court and found Morel sitting on the steps of a residence there.

Other arrests and summons issued by the Peabody Police over the weekend include:

  • Police issued a summons to Anthony J. Betancourt, 31, of 16 Crowninshield Street #316 for wanton destruction of property over $1,200. The summons followed a call at 145 Main Street at 6:56 pm Friday after the caller said he witnessed a man smash the rear window of a green, Toyota Corolla.
  • At 4:11 am on Saturday, police responded to a call from the 7-Eleven on Lowell Street that a group had just smashed the window of the store. Police issued a summons to Anthony Glidden, 25, of Farnham Avenue, for malicious destruction of property under $1,200.
  • During a motor vehicle stop at the McDonald's on Main Street at 8:35 pm on Saturday, police issued a summons Michael Kobialka, 40, of Marblehead, on charges of operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and arrested Barrie H. Mittman, 34, of Roslindale, on an outstanding warrant.
