Peabody Police Investigating Door-To-Door Scam

A man posing as a water department employee and an accomplice allegedly stole $1,400 from a North Dale Street resident.

PEABODY, MA -- Police say an elderly resident was robbed around 1 pm on Tuesday after letting a man he thought was from the water department into his home. The man was wearing a badge and said he needed to check the bathroom. While the victim and suspect were talking in the bathroom with the water running and the door closed, an accomplice entered the residence and stole $1,400 in cash.

The victim told police he thinks the men fled in an older model white car that had been parked on North Dale Street. The man posing as the water department employee was described as a skinny Hispanic male, approximately 5'10", around 30 years old, stubble on his face, wearing a dark colored baseball hat, wearing a badge around his neck with the first word "Energy."
