Peabody Police Training Targets Impaired Drivers
Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement trains officers to identify signs of driver impairment due to drugs, alcohol or both.
PEABODY, MA — Peabody police officers this week completed training designed to increase effective enforcement of state impaired driving laws.
Through a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, officers took part in a two-day course to train law enforcement officers to observe, identify and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol or a combination of both.
Peabody Sgt. James Harkins, a state drug recognition expert, led the two-day course that include five sessions and 16 hours of class time.

Chief Thomas Griffin said he is committed to institutionalizing this type of training on an ongoing basis.
"Our priority is to keep the roads of Peabody as safe as possible by removing impaired drivers from our streets," Griffin said.
