PEABODY, MA — Peabody has instituted a new municipal mattress and box spring recycling program as the state ban against landfill disposal goes into effect on Tuesday.

Mattresses and box springs can no longer be disposed of curbside with a bulk item sticker and must instead be recycled through the new dropoff and recycling sticker program. Those purchasing a new mattress or box spring are advised to ask the retailer to collect the previously used one.

Peabody residents can now bring old mattresses and box springs to the Peabody Recycling Center at 50 Farm Avenue. Residents will be required to purchase a $20 disposal sticker per mattress and a $20 sticker per box spring.
