Police Respond to Multiple Thefts, Break-ins Over Weekend
The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are excerpts from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Oct. 20-23.
Thursday, Oct. 20
- 3:07 p.m. An employee at on Webster Street reported receiving a fraudulent check for $2,000. An officer said he would attempt to contact the person involved and settle the matter or take further action if necessary.
- 4:21 p.m. A caller on Griffin Road reported someone shot at his front bedroom window with a BB gun.
- 4:36 p.m. Police received a call that someone stole exercise equipment -- a stairclimber -- from a driveway of one of the units at Pine Grove Mobile Park on Route 1.
- 4:44 p.m. Police responded to a report of a past burglary at a Taylor Street residence. A laptop computer, TV and assorted jewelry were stolen. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
- 5:51 p.m. Genaro Viola, 21, of 8 Rantoul Ave., Lynn, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop on County Street. Viola was charged with driving with a suspended license and no valid inspection sticker.
- 8:30 p.m. Adalvicio Ferreira, 33, of 15 Hingston St., Peabody, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop on Hingston Street. Ferreira was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to turn on headlights.
Friday, Oct. 21
- 1:49 a.m. Joshua J. Page, 22, of 25 Emily Ln., Peabody, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. An officer pulled over Page's vehicle at the corner of Ellsworth Road and Emerson Street.
- 9:31 a.m. A caller on Florence Road reported his son's prescription medication was stolen.
- 12:14 p.m. State police and Peabody officers responded to a car accident on Route 1 North at the Jughandle. Occupants of one vehicle were extricated by the Fire Department and transported to a hospital by Atlantic Ambulance. No further details were available.
- 1:40 p.m. Paul F. Witkus, 36 of 11 Barton Sq. #202, Salem, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Tremont and Driscoll streets. Witkus was charged with driving with a suspended license, speeding and a marked lanes violation.
- 2:12 p.m. A caller at on Lynn Street reported someone left a syringe in the drive-through.
- 2:41 p.m. A caller on Lowell Street reported all four tires on the person's car were vandalized.
- 3:44 p.m. Police responded to a report of a past burglary at an Aberdeen Avenue home. An officer would be going to the home to do a follow-up investigation.
- 5:28 p.m. Store security at reported some vehicles parked out in the store lot were damaged.
- 6:03 p.m. A 43-year-old Salem resident was issued a summons for shoplifting at the .
- 6:06 p.m. Both drivers and two passengers involved in a two-car accident at the corner of Stevens and Central streets were transported to area hospitals with injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and one driver, an 18-year-old Danvers resident, was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. No further details were available.
- 10:01 p.m. A caller on Starbard Terrace reported a tire was slashed on her husband's truck. An officer spoke to the neighbors, whom the caller "had words with" on Monday, but they denied knowing anything about the vandalism.
Saturday, Oct. 22
- 6:36 a.m. A 16-year-old Peabody male was transported to Salem Hospital after a single-car accident on Summit Street near the industrial park. The car, a black Dodge Neon, was towed from the scene.
- 7:08 a.m. An officer reported finding graffiti at Scrubbles on Central Street.
- 7:24 a.m. An officer reported finding graffiti at on Webster Street.
- 11:56 a.m. One person was transported to Salem Hospital with injuries after a two-car accident on Route 114 near Route 128. No further details were available.
- 12:51 p.m. Eugene Quane, 53, of 432B New Zealand Rd., Seabrook, N.H., was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop on Route 114. Quane was charged with driving with an expired license, a U-turn violation and on a warrant from Quincy District Court.
- 1:15 p.m. Five people were issued summonses for trespassing after a report of trespassing at an address on Walnut Street. No further details were available.
- 2:49 p.m. Police investigated a report of two stolen drain pipes on Lynn Street.
- 5:04 p.m. Valentin V. Lopez, 26, of 8 Mason St. #2, Lynn, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Winona and Lisburn streets. Lopez was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The vehicle owner, a 29-year-old Lynn resident, was also issued a summons for allowing unlicensed operation of the vehicle and having an excessive window tint.
- 5:23 p.m. A 29-year-old Peabody man was issued a summons for assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $250, following a report of a domestic fight between a male and female at the man's Central Street apartment. The victim was transported to the police station. No further details were available.
- 7 p.m. A 30-year-old Peabody man was transported to Mass. General Hospital with a head injury after a car hit the scooter he was riding at the corner of Milk and Sutton streets. The injured man also issued a summons for operating a vehicle with a revoked license.
- 9:50 p.m. A caller on Stevens Street reported a group outside the person's home broke the caller's car windows and those on the rear deck and rear door of the home. The suspect vehicle left the scene before police arrived.
- 10:01 p.m. A caller on Joyce Road reported her home was broken into. Entry was made by forcing a lower back door, but nothing was taken. An officer said the intruders might have been scared off when they caught sight of the alarm panel inside.
- 10:24 p.m. A caller reported a man was tossing beer cans out on Warren Street and causing a disturbance. Police located the man and said he was discarding trash.
Sunday, Oct. 23
- 2:49 a.m. A 27-year-old Peabody man was placed into protective custody after police received a report of an intoxicated male at his apartment on Main Street. A juvenile who was present was taken to the lobby of the police station and later picked up by his step-mother.
- 3:40 a.m. Police received a report of monkeys and kangaroos in the driveway of a County Street residence. The residents said the animals left the area before police arrived.
- 8:47 a.m. A caller at on Route 1 reported four tires and rims were stolen from a commercial vehicle. The vehicle was left up on blocks.
- 1:49 p.m. Police received a call regarding harassment at the . Police said the caller's vehicle was spit on.
