Remembering Pleasure Island at the South Branch

Walk down memory lane as we remember Pleasure Island at the Peabody Library's South Branch on June 16th.

Join us at the South Branch for a walk down memory lane as we remember the local amusement park Pleasure Island, which was open in Wakefield from 1959-1969. President and founder of Friends of Pleasure Island, Bob McLaughlin will share his presentation filled with pictures and fun facts of the popular local fun spot. If you’re a fan of local history, remember enjoying your time visiting Pleasure Island or just want to know whatever happened to the park’s icon Moby Dick, you’ll want to come to the South Branch for this engaging program.

Bob McLaughlin is also the author of books about Pleasure Island, Freedomland (a sister part to pleasure Island that was in the Bronx, NY) and an upcoming book about Magic Mountain. These books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Book purchase is not required to attend the presentation. If you’d like to learn more about the Friends of Pleasure Island, you can visit the website: friendsofpleasureisland.org.

This program is free and open to the public and will take place at the South Branch of the Peabody Institute Library, located at 78 Lynn St. on Thursday, June 16th at 6:30PM. Registration is required as space is limited. For more information or to reserve your free spot, please go to www.peabodylibrary.org, call 978-531-3380 or stop by in person.
