Salem Man Arrested for OUI, Tailgating and Passing Violation

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are excerpts from reports in the  press log from Aug. 1-2.

Wednesday, Aug. 1

  • 2:19 p.m. A man at North Shore Community Action Programs on Main Street reported a dispute he had while trying to cross the street. He was upset that the driver of a car did not stop for him while he was in the crosswalk. An officer said no further action was needed.
  • 2:23 p.m. The Fire Department reported they were on scene with a motor vehicle leaking gas on Fulton Street. Firefighters located the owner of the vehicle and he said he would bring it to be repaired.
  • 2:30 p.m. A caller on Aberdeen Avenue reported a neighbor was revving his car engine for the past hour. An officer said the person recently purchased the vehicle and he was showing it off to his friends. He said he would stop revving the engine.
  • 4:56 p.m. A caller at Sonic reported his paycheck was stolen from the fast food eatery while he was on vacation.
  • 5:51 p.m. A male resident was issued a summons for driving with a revoked license and leaving the scene of a car accident with property damage, following a hit-and-run accident in Wilson Square.
  • 6:03 p.m. security requested police presence for the growing crowd at . Police said the crowd was orderly and not causing any problems.
  • 6:09 p.m. A caller reported she parked her car at the that morning and when she came out at 4:30 p.m. there was a log under the windshield wiper. The log was about 1-1/2 feet long and 5 inches round. There was no damage to the car and the vehicle next to hers also had a log on it. She said she just found it "strange."
  • 6:32 p.m. A caller reported a package was delivered to his house on County Street by UPS, but he never received it. He said the box contained $30 in goods and was apparently stolen on July 18.
  • 7:38 p.m. A caller reported a group of six to seven youths were playing terrible music on a boombox on Northend Street.
  • 9:51 p.m. Police received a report of a theft from the lockers at Workout World. The victim said his gym bag was stolen, containing his work clothes and a key to Town Hall in Georgetown.

Thursday, Aug. 2

  • 12:27 a.m. Joseph R. Denehy, 24, of 72 Butler St., Salem, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop on Lowell Street. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, tailgating and a marked lanes violation.
  • 12:52 a.m. Police found a 1998 GMC Savannah Van in a parking lot on Lynn Street near Brown's Pond that turned out to have been stolen in Reading. The vehicle was towed and Reading police were notified.
  • 1:15 a.m. Police said a black 1996 Honda Civic Coupe driven by a black male fled from a car stop on Foster Street. The pursuit was called off at the corner of Lynn Street and Winnegance Avenue and Lynn and state police were notified about the vehicle.
  • 6:41 a.m. A caller on Abbott Street reported her car was broken into overnight.
  • 8:03 a.m. Police responded to a report of a car break-in on Dustin Street. Two vehicles were entered and some change and a GPS device were stolen.
  • 8:59 a.m. A County Street resident reported her vehicle was entered overnight and some change was taken.
  • 9:32 a.m. Police received a report of a person lying in the road at 129 Lowell St. The person was a white male, bald, wearing blue shorts and a fatigue type tee shirt in his early 20s. Police located the male and advised to stop laying in the street. He agreed and went inside.
  • 10:24 a.m. A Magnolia Way resident reported some jewelry was missing or stolen from her apartment.
  • 11:11 a.m. Ryan P. Trinchera, 32, of 261 Newbury St. 9, Peabody, was arrested at his residence for domestic assault and battery.
  • 1:02 p.m. A caller on Jones Road reported an unwanted guest -- her ex-boyfriend -- was inside her house. She said he gained access by using an old key. The female she threw a lamp at him, but he wouldn't leave. She was instructed to get to a safe location until officers arrived, but she wouldn't stay on the line. Police said the male gathered his belongings and left the area.
