Those Old-School Eyeglasses In "Chappaquiddick" Have Peabody Tie

It wasn't the first time Hollywood called on the Eye Place on Lowell Street.

PEABODY, MA -- The producers of "Chappaquiddick" shopped local when looking for 18 sets of eyeglasses that would fit the period piece, which is set in 1969. The filmmakers called on Shellee Rubin, who owns the Eye Place at 474 Lowell Street to fashion frames for extras and actors, including Bruce Dern, who played Joe Kennedy in the film.

Rubin told Advocate newspapers, which first reported this story, that she was a bit nervous because she never got the chance to meet Dern or the other actors to take their measurements. But she had experience working with Hollywood: in 2016 she completed a rush order for two pairs of glasses worn by Kevin Bacon in "Patriots Day."

"It went back and forth, it was an absolute nightmare," said Rubin. "You’re working for someone who’s famous – what if I screwed up?"
