This storm is being forecast as a blizzard and will bring with it extremely high winds and bitter cold temperatures. Power outages may occur; if so, it may take some time for power to be restored. As a result, city officials are particularly concerned for the safety of people who live alone. Mayor Michael Cahill is asking residents to check on neighbors who live alone and may need assistance.

I know these storms are tough on everyone. As a community, we have been rising to the occasion and taking care of each other. For that, I want to thank you. Our public services and public safety professionals will be out during the storm working to ensure our safety and our ability to move around the city as soon as possible. During this storm, it is critically important that people stay off the roads as the forecast is for blizzard conditions, making travel dangerous and potentially life threatening. When you can do so safely, please shovel out the fire hydrants in your neighborhood. However, please do not try to do this during the height of the blizzard, as it may be too dangerous to be outdoors.”
