Five Things You Need To Know Today: June 5, 2012
Ever imagine living on a soggy Scottish coast? Here, you have it.

1. Weather: The same.
2. First, MLK, then, this day in 1968, RFK. Bobby Kennedy killed in Los Angeles. For a certain generation, an unforgetable event that ended the optimism of "the '60s." I watched his grandson, Joe, campaigning for Obama, on a hostile sidewalk in New Hampshire in 2008. We conducted an improntu experiment. When Joe waved at the parade of cars and pickups, the passengers cheered. When everyone else did, they got, at best, no response. I sometimes still dream of things and sometimes ask, simply, why?
3. No rain inside for you young soccer players. The Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, in collaboration with the New England Revolution professional soccer club, will host a 2-hour soccer clinic for kids of all abilities, from 7-14 years of age. This free clinic will be run by New England Revolution Academy coaches assisted by expert therapy staff from Spaulding. Participants will rotate through stations focusing on skills & game strategies. Special appearance by Slyde the Mascot. Complimentary snacks and beverages. Mini-presentation on injury prevention" for parents and kids. In The Jungleplex, off Long Pond Road (come on, if you have kids who play soccer you know how to locate the place) from 6 to 8pm. Call the Jungleplex for more info.

4. Drop-in story time at the main branch of the library beginning at 2:15.
5. You can call this one a stretch if you like, but journalists can't have all the fun. Consider this: downtown parking fees too much? too many, too few, liquor/entertainment licenses in town? See and hear how your town asks and answers these questions at tonight selectmen's meeting, Town Hall beginning at 7pm. I mean, don't just watch on cable, go. (The best discussions happen in the hallways.)
