Cape Cod police are on the hunt for a suspect who escaped from the back of a cruiser at the Bourne police station.

Branden Coggeshall, 24, of Bourne, was arrested following a traffic stop on Shore Road Friday night. Police said he was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle; an officer handcuffed him and put him in the back of his cruiser after learning he had three warrants.

As the officer arrived at the station, he secured his firearm—at which point Coggeshall slipped out of his handcuffs.

“(Coggeshall) squeezed through the very small partition opening separating the front of the cruiser from the prisoner compartment, and exit the cruiser using the front driver’s side door,” police said in a statement. “Seeing this, the arresting officer immediately gave chase following Coggeshall as he scaled a nearby chain-link fence. Once Coggeshall was over the fence, he continued running and fled out of sight.”
