Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Sponsors Lung Association’s Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek for 5th Straight Year

160-Mile, 3-Day Bike Ride Aims to Raise Funds and Awareness for Lung Disease, Lung Cancer

The American Lung Association announced today that Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. will return as the presenting sponsor for the 33rd Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek (AEBT) on Cape Cod, Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24, 2017. The 3-day, 160-mile bike ride aims to raise $425,000 to support research for lung disease, advocate for clear air, and educate the public about the importance of lung health.

Sunovion, a global biopharmaceutical company based in Marlborough, Massachusetts focused on the innovative application of science and medicine to help people with serious psychiatric, neurological and respiratory conditions, has been the presenting sponsor for the Trek since 2012. Sunovion has also supported the development of a new series of educational webinars focused on the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the experience of living well with COPD. AEBT is an 'at-your-own-pace' cycling tour taking participants on a picturesque journey from Plymouth to Provincetown to raise money supporting the fight against lung disease. Riders can choose to either cycle 105 miles over two days, or 160 miles over three.

In addition to Sunovion’s corporate sponsorship of the Trek, their employees continue to be dedicated participants, fundraising on their own to help support the American Lung Association of the Northeast initiatives. Since 2012, the Sunovion Trek team employees have raised more than $200,000.

“Sunovion’s sponsorship of our Autumn Escape Bike Trek has enabled us to expand our presence in the Northeast region and reach more families struggling with lung disease,” said Jeff Seyler, Executive Vice President, Northeast Region of the American Lung Association. “Together, Sunovion and the Lung Association are dedicated to beating back respiratory illnesses like COPD and lung cancer for good – and by working together on events like this one we are able educate the public, support research, and fund innovation, so that one day, that goal may be realized.”

The Autumn Escape Bike Trek attracts expert and novice cyclists alike and combines competition and leisure in a weekend filled with beautiful scenery, prizes, entertainment and support along the way. The event is held rain or shine. The Lung Association provides cyclists with overnight accommodations, medical and technical support, food and beverages. Online registration is available through September 15.
