Plymouth Kicks Off Thanksgiving with Inaugural Illuminate 2014 Celebration

The Thanksgiving-filled festivities begin with a candle-lighting ceremony at Cole’s Hill at 4 p.m. Friday in which members of the community can light a candle to honor the giving-spirit during the Thanksgiving season.

The Illuminate 2014 celebrations will count down each year to the historic 400th anniversary of the 1620 Mayflower voyage that brought the Pilgrims to settle in Plymouth.

A cultural street festival featuring live music, art, history, special deals at shops and restaurants and more will follow the celebration on Main and Court streets from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Historical Thanksgiving Parade in Plymouth Celebrates 18th Year

The main event in Plymouth, the historical America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration will be held for the 18th year on Saturday.

The celebration will be held at the historic Plymouth Harbor and Waterfront.

The parade will offer colonial era musical and historical reenactments, vintage American cars and handmade decorated floats.

Musical entertainment will be provided by adults and children play the drums and fife, pipe, drum and bugle corps.

Opening ceremonies kick off at DCR Pilgrim Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. and the parade ends off Benny’s Plaza Court Street around 11 a.m.

Last Chance for Local Thanksgiving Food Shopping

Members of the community can buy local foods to prepare for their Thanksgiving feasts at the Harvest Market on the historic waterfront on Sunday.

Over 30 local farmers and artisans will be at the DCR Pilgrim Memorial Park near the Mayflower.

The Harvest Market will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The market will offer homemade jams and sauces, handcrafted soaps and candles, local honey, artisan bread, baked goods, seasonal produce, duck eggs, local oysters, artisan pestos and sauces, local cheeses, handcrafted artisan chocolates, locally roasted coffee, maple syrup and more.

Theatre Company Performs ‘The Venture of 1620’

The Academy of Arts LOGOS Theatre is coming to Plymouth to tell the story of the Pilgrims through the Thanksgiving production “The Venture of 1620.”

“The Venture of 1620” follows the story of the Pilgrims from the voyage of the Mayflower to the first Thanksgiving celebration through the eyes of Plymouth Colony governor William Bradford.

Performances will be held at at Plymouth Memorial Hall, 83 Court St., at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and a matinee performance at 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

Tickets can be bought at Plymouth Memorial Hall and near the waterfront this weekend.

Tickets are $25 for adults and matinee tickets are $10 for students.
