Provincetown's Parish Awaits a New Priest (provincetownindependent.org) — St. Peter the Apostle Church, the Catholic parish for Provincetown and North Truro, is in transition after its pastor’s retirement and a planned successor’s withdrawal, leaving a temporary priest in place. Awakened by Exploding Molasses, Schoolteacher Gives the Alarm (provincetownindependent.org) — A vivid 1927 account describes a major nighttime fire that tore through Small’s Block at Gosnold and Commercial streets in Provincetown, threatening nearby landmarks like Odd Fellows Hall and the post office. A local schoolteacher’s quick alarm and five fire companies’ response kept damage to about $5,000 while much of the town watched the Cape glow for miles.
   

5. Pushing Academic Boundaries (smith.edu) — A Smith College Africana studies professor is conducting an in-depth ethnographic study of Black life, leisure, and placemaking in Provincetown, highlighting how Black residents, workers, and visitors shape a town often perceived as overwhelmingly white. Her work traces centuries of African-descended presence on the Outer Cape and spotlights events like Juneteenth and Womxn of Color Weekend that center Black community here.
