Quincy resident dines out for diabetes awareness

Community and Health

(L-R) Dr. William Hsu, Director of Joslin’s Asian Clinic and Co-Director of Joslin’s AADI; Quincy resident and Joslin patient Bing Chan; Dr. George King, Joslin Diabetes Center's Chief Scientific Officer and founder of the AADI; David Wong, Joslin patient and owner of Empire Garden; Dr. Peter Amenta, President and CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center

Quincy resident Bing Chan dined alongside researchers, staff and supporters of Joslin Diabetes Center at the 3rd annual Dim Sum for Diabetes event at Empire Garden Restaurant in Chinatown recently. Chan, who has type 2 diabetes, has been a patient of Dr. George King for the last five years. Held in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, the event was widely attended by members of the community who enjoyed cart-service dim sum classics while learning some important facts on diabetes within the Asian community, one of the largest at-risk populations, from Joslin’s leading researchers and clinicians. All proceeds from the event benefitted Joslin’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative (AADI), which strives to enhance the quality of life and health outcomes for the rising number of Asian Americans living with diabetes.
