Andrew Friedmann Announces His Candidacy for Reading Board of Selectmen
Andrew Friedmann for Board of Selectmen - Providing new leadership through listening and learning

Dear Fellow Resident of Reading,
After raising three kids who attended the Reading public school system for 17 years, I now have the time and desire to give back to the community by serving on the Board of Selectmen. I feel it is time for a fresh face and a new perspective on the Board.
As your Selectman and Town Meeting Member, I’m committed to listening to and learning from residents, town leaders and the business community so that I may lead in a transparent and collaborative manner. I will:

Listen. I like to keep an open mind when listening to different views. I find that listening to various perspectives provides me with a deeper understanding of the issues. I enjoy working with others and don’t believe that we all have to agree on everything in order to work together effectively.
Learn. As former Chair of the Board of Health, I know how important it is to do the homework necessary to understand the many aspects of each issue. It is a constant learning process and one that I enjoy. As your elected official, I will learn about the the different angles of a problem before forming a position. We are currently facing financial challenges that have a negative impact on our schools and town government. I will work with key town leaders to find financial solutions to these challenges and then engage with all of the community to actively and openly support these solutions.

Lead. Town Meeting along with independent boards and committees are crucial for a healthy, local democracy. I will work openly with these branches of town government so that Reading remains a great place to live. I will also lead with honesty and respect when communicating with the public, especially during times of disagreement.
I would appreciate your consideration and vote on April 4th.
Sincerely,
Andrew Friedmann
About Andy:
Like many of you, Alison and I chose to bring our young family to Reading because of its beautiful neighborhoods, ease of access to Boston, and the reputation of the schools. My children have received a great education in the public school system. I remain committed to keeping our school system strong as part of an investment in our kids, our community, and our future.
Professionally, I taught biology and chemistry in a public high school upon graduating from college. After several years in teaching, I earned a doctorate in physiology and then conducted research for five years. I have worked at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for the past sixteen years. During my work for the Commonwealth, I have become comfortable with understanding many of the complex laws and regulations under which we live.
