Burbank YMCA hosts Laurel Kluge 5K Ribbon Run/Walk, Oct. 5th
Proceeds benefit PINK and LIVESTRONG cancer survivor exercise programs
Reading, MA – On Saturday morning, October 5, 2019 the Burbank YMCA will host the 5th annual Laurel Kluge 5K Ribbon Run/Walk Road Race which starts and ends at the Y. This family-friendly event raises funds for PINK and LIVESTRONG at the YMCA. Dedicated to helping local adult cancer survivors, these group exercise and support programs are free of charge and provide the physical activity, supportive relationships, and stress reduction helpful to regaining and maintaining improved health and well-being.
A resident of Reading, Laurel Kluge was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who dedicated her time to philanthropy and volunteerism and sadly passed away at the age of 49 from breast cancer. Burbank Y Executive Director John Feudo said, “Laurel touched so many lives with her generosity of spirit and her commitment to making life better for families in her community. She was a well-loved and respected member of the Burbank Y family who is always missed and continues to inspire us. I think she’d be very proud the Burbank Y has served nearly 1200 cancer survivors in the past four years through PINK and LIVESTRONG at no cost for participants. ”
The Laurel Kluge 5K Ribbon Run and Walk will kick-off at 9 a.m. with over 200 participants setting out from the Burbank YMCA, located at 36 Arthur B. Lord Drive in Reading. There will be music, food and refreshments, and fun, informative community business booths. Free childcare is available to families with children ages 3-8 years old, along with an all-day Burbank Y Open House including group exercise classes and full use of the fitness and aquatics centers.

Director John Feudo noted, "Cancer touches nearly every life—either directly or through a relative or friend. We hope to see another great turn out this year in support of helping cancer survivors with these great programs that focus on the whole person and not the disease.”
