Coach's Corner: John Fiore

Fiore lead last year's undefeated, championship winning squad.

Reading Memorial High School Varsity football coach John Fiore describes himself as someone who loves to compete, which made his last season a dream come true.

His squad competed in, and won, the 2009 Division II High School Football Super Bowl.

"The entire experience at Gillette Stadium for the Super Bowl was something I think we all will never forget," Fiore said.

Taking home the Championship title topped off an undefeated season for the Rockets, who have only lost one game in the past 2 seasons.

Along with coaching, Fiore has taught at RMHS since 2001. He was named head football coach in 2004, and is also the assistant coach for the RMHS boy's outdoor track team under head coach Hal Croft. Croft was Fiore's high school track coach, and a motivating influence that inspired Fiore to become a coach.

"I love to see people improve to the point where they surpass even their own wildest expectations," Fiore said. "There are very few professions where that happens on a regular basis, and coaching is one of them."

Football tryouts begin Aug. 23, and Fiore is looking forward to the community involvement that comes with the season.

"High school sports can really help galvanize a community, bringing neighbors together for a few hours of enjoyment. It is elemental," Fiore said.
