Ednamae Storti Passes Away

Ednamae Storti, who grew up in Reading and who lived in the Washington, DC, most of her adult life, passed away Sept. 6th, in Wilmington at the age of 92.

She was born August 4, 1926, to John and Edna Storti, and grew up with her sister Grace and brother John “Bunny” Storti. She graduated from Reading High School in 1946, and earned a varsity letter in girls basketball that year. Graduating from Boston University with an Associate’s Degree, her first job in 1948 was working for Professor Warren Ault of the school’s history department. In 1957, she moved to Washington, DC, to work for the Institute for Defense Analyses, at the Pentagon. Working there gave her the opportunity to live in London in the mid-1960’s. She left IDA in 1972 and began working for “The Washington Post” as an editorial assistant in the “Book World” department in 1973. She retired in 1997.

She gave generous contributions to Smile Train, an international children’s charity that provides 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children in 85+ countries.

Throughout her life she traveled extensively, taking many trips to visit relatives in Castelfranci, Italy, the birthplace of her father, and to China, Hong Kong, Romania, and the Middle East.

She also read “The New York Times” every day, and was an avid fan of The Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her sister Grace Palmer of Wilmington, Mass. and ten of her eleven nieces and nephews, Joanne Palmer having passed away in 2007. They are Rosemary Palmer, Karyn Ann Storti, John Howard Palmer, Marcia Elaine Storti, John Anthony Storti III, Jeffrey Brooks Palmer, Mark Thomas Storti, Betsy Ellen Palmer Coldewey, Kathleen Storti, and Kevin Storti.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service s and burial are private. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Ednamae’s memory to Smile Train at smiletrain.org.
