The Reading Civic Concert Band performs this Sunday, December 11, at 3:00pm at the Parker School Auditorium. Conductor Lucinda Ellert has gathered together popular songs from the 1890’s, that were played by the many bands assembled here 114 years ago, at the gala celebration of Reading’s 250th birthday. There will be Sousa marches, ragtime, and excerpts from musical theater, as well as two pieces featuring virtuoso trumpet solos.
The guest soloist is Tomas Palance, who has played the White House, Pentagon, and the Kennedy Center, has toured Europe with the American Chamber Winds, and has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Doc Severinsen, Diane Schuur, Red Skelton and Bob Hope. Admission at the door is $8 for students or seniors, $12 for adults; and ages 8 & under are free. The Reading Civic Concert Band is a non-profit band of community volunteers, dedicated to making live music that is local and affordable to all. Come out Sunday afternoon and see Tom and the RCCB, as we “party like it’s 1894”.
