Fred Booth Passes Away
Longtime Reading resident served the US Navy in the Western Pacific Theater.

Fred W. Booth, age 92, a resident of Reading for 69 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Benchmark Senior Living at Woburn. He was born April 4, 1926, in Malden to the late Carl Leon and Elsie Marion Booth.
He spoke fondly of his childhood with brothers William and Carl, and graduated from Malden High School in 1944. From 1944 to 1946 he served the US Navy in the Western Pacific Theater as a Seaman 1st Class Fire Controlman on the USS Caperton (DD-650). He married his beloved Shirley Lind Booth in 1949, they loved to landscape and garden around their home of many years at 18 Susan Drive in Reading. For 44 years he worked as a Transmission and Distribution Supervisor with Mass Electric Company. He retired in 1987 and joined the “Blown Fuses” retiree group. Fred had a dry wit, loved animals, especially cats, and made friends quickly. Fred was a kind, grateful, caring individual who thought of others always before himself. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Reading for many years, and was a past President (1980-1981) of the Boston Baptist Social Union.
He is survived by his brother Carl of Groveland, MA , many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his brother William. He will be dearly missed by a loving group of family and friends.

Those whose lives Fred touched are invited to the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn Street (corner of Woburn Street), on Sunday, Dec. 2nd, from 4-7 pm to remember and celebrate his life.
A Funeral Service will be held for Fred on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church 45 Woburn St. Reading at 11 a.m.. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
