Happy 25th Birthday To the Burbank Ice Arena

A release from the Town of Reading:
READING, MA - Wednesday night area hockey fans celebrated the Burbank Ice Arena’s 25th birthday with a special evening of recognition for Nelson Burbank.
Mr. Burbank spearheaded the effort to build an ice rink in Reading and provided the financial means in 1993. Over the following 25 years, true to his word, the endeavor never cost Reading taxpayers any money, and in fact usually produces over $100,000 annually to support the town and school budgets.

More importantly, the staff and volunteers have helped thousands of Reading girls and boys through both organized hockey teams and the North Shore Skating Club, and provided the community many benefits through its model special abilities skating programs.
We extend our congratulations to both the girls and boys varsity hockey teams that won their early season contest [Wednesday] night. But the real winner has been the entire Town of Reading – thank you Nelson and Rita Burbank!
