If Override Fails, Town Will Try, Try Again

In a Letter to the Editor, longtime resident tells No supporters that even if they win, the fight isn't over.

Letter to the Editor from Bill Brown:

Growing up in Reading schools we were taught that this country was a country where the majority rules and that we were a "government of the people, by the people, and for the people, whose just powers shall be derived by the consent of the governed."

Apparently that does not hold true in Reading today. As you are aware the voters of Reading rejected a $7.5 million override 59% to 41% last year. It was stated that if the override failed 30 school and 10 town side positions would be in jeopardy, only a few teachers were laid off, but one new position was added to the planning department.

At the candidates night March 20, 2018, both candidates were asked what would they do if the override failed, the candidate for reelection stated he would seek yet another attempt as soon as possible.

Apparently my years ago civics class taught me incorrectly, so for all you that plan to vote no on the override do not bother because if you succeed the powers that be will bring it back next year and will wear you down until they get their way. It's called bullying.
