Jeanne Borawski Appointed to School Committee

Selectmen and School Committee members appointed the newest school official.

The Reading School Committee will have a new face, for a at least the next several months.

During a Monday meeting, Board of Selectmen and School Committee members in attendance voted to appoint Jeanne Borawski to replace Robert Spadafora, who was forced to resign due to a work conflict.

Town and school officials interviewed Richard Coco, Shannon Fratto and Demetra Tseckare during the process before opting to appoint Borawski.

According to Superintendent of Schools John Doherty, there was little debate during the meeting when Borawski was appointed following the interviews. Borawski was a member of the Finance Committee, a former teacher in Wilmington Public Schools, and currently has children in Barrows Elementary School.

Borawski must be sworn in, and will then be in attendance at the next School Committee meeting, according to Doherty. The superintendent was unsure the timeframe for when Borawski would be sworn in.

The School Committee seat will run through April 2014.

“There were four very strong candidates that were interviewed on Monday night,” said Doherty. “All four candidates would have brought strengths to the position.”
