LiveWires Presents: Short Skirts, Oh My! The Evolution of the Women's Movement

Reading Public Library hosts Anne Barrett as she educates and entertains in this romp through American history which will resonate today.

Tue, 3 /22, 7:00 p.m. Reading Police Department Community Room, 15 Union St

Award-winning storyteller Anne Barrett educates and entertains in this romp through American history which will resonate today. In 1910, women’s skirts and hair were long….little more than a decade later, skirts were reaching unseemly heights, bobbed hair was all the rage and women had finally won the right to vote. How did this happen? Follow the evolution from Abigail Adams advising husband John to “remember the ladies” through the decades-long struggle for women’s suffrage that Abigail seemingly foresaw when she predicted that if the ladies were not remembered, they would “foment a rebellion”, to the shocking emergence of the 1920’s flappers.

This program is free of charge thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Friends of Reading Public Library.
