New Commuter Rail Schedule Announced

A release from the Town of Reading:

READING – Town Manager Bob LeLacheur announced new Commuter Rail schedules that will go into effect on Monday, Oct. 29.

“Officials from Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) informed my office of a new Commuter rail schedule slated to go into effect on October 29, 2018,” said LeLacheur. “These are minor changes to trains that serve our community and, according to DOT, they are designed to utilize new or improved track infrastructure, eliminate freight conflicts, and minimize train traffic that can cause congestion and delays.”

MassDOT notes that Commuter rail schedules are adjusted twice a year, spring and fall, to meet changing passenger needs, reflect investments and upgrades to the system and further improve on-time performance (OTP).

Below are those changes that are over 5 minutes (peak trains noted in bold):

Lowell Line
 #329 (outbound 4:45 pm from North Station) – Departs 5 minutes earlier at 4:40 p.m. This change eliminates conflict with Amtrak 685 (which can cascade to peak train 331) caused by modified signal spacing as a result of the GLX project.

 #336 (inbound 5:47 p.m. from Lowell) – Departs 5 minutes earlier at 5:53 p.m.

 #339 (outbound 7:25 p.m. from North Station) – Departs 5 minutes later at 7:30 p.m.

Passengers are encouraged to visit www.mbta.com to view their new schedules prior to Oct. 22.
