Police Log: Thief Removes Back Door, Car Accident Kills a Dog
A look at notable events in the Reading Police log for Dec. 2-3.

Thursday, Dec. 2
9:26 a.m. A Lawrence Road resident reported that someone broke into his house by sawing a hole through his basement door. Police later learned that the person that entered the basement had permission from the homeowner.
9:42 a.m. A Walnut Road man reported a suspicious man on a bike on South Street. Police checked the area, but did not find the bike rider.

11:41 a.m. An REI employee reported that someone was dumping trash from a pickup truck into a dumpster behind REI. Police spoke to the building's owner, who said he had approved the dumping.
3:16 p.m. Police responded to a report of a group of youths on the railroad tracks. Police checked the area, but did not find any youths.

3:51 p.m. A Center Avenue man asked for assistance retrieving some of his belongings as part of a domestic situation.
4:05 p.m. A Deering Street resident reported a basketball net in the street near the intersection of Deeing Street and Middlsex Avenue. Police visited the property, and found no one home. So, and officer left a note.
4:30 p.m. Police received a report of an outside fire on Sanborn Lane. The fire was quickly extinguished.
6:03 p.m. A Haven Street man asked police to check on a resident who had threatened, over the internet, to harm herself. Police checked the resident's home and learned that she had been admitted to the hospital.
7:40 p.m. A Willow Street resident reported that a thief stole a file carrier, which she believes the thief may have confused for a laptop case, from the front seat of her car while it was parked at her home.
8:29 p.m. Police responded to a report of an accident between a car and a dog near the intersection of Main Street and Charles Street. The accident killed the dog, and the owner told police he would handle arrangements for the animal.
11:27 p.m. An anonymous caller complained about loud music coming from a Lakeview Avenue apartment. Police spoke to the resident, who agreed to shut the music off for the night.
Thursday, Dec. 3
9:20 a.m. A Pearl Street man reported that his wife received two inappropriate phone calls.
9:25 a.m. Reading police dispatched an officer to assist Wilmington police with a school lockdown.
10:09 a.m. Police gave information to a North Reading man who visited the station with questions about a potential domestic abuse situation.
11:58 a.m. A Reading resident asked for assistance with her son. She told police that she had taken narcotics from him, and he had become violent the previous night, she said.
12:28 p.m. A Rachel Road resident told police that a neighbor had been screeching tires and yelling in the street the previous night.
1:44 p.m. Police spotted a large raccoon wandering in the street near the intersection of Lowell Street and Intervale Terrace.
2:24 p.m. A Grandview Road resident reported that a thief removed his back door, entered his home and stole money and jewelry.
2:30 P.M. The owner of a business on Brand Court reported that she found a door between her business and an adjacent business unlocked. She reported nothing missing, but couldn't be sure.
2:50 p.m. A Pleasant Street resident reported that she scheduled an appointment with someone to check her fireplace flu, but thought the arrangement may be a scam. She said she would call when the man arrives to verify the situation.
3:18 p.m. Police spotted a minor two-vehicle collision on Main Street.
4:35 p.m. A Joseph Way resident reported that she had been a victim of check fraud.
4:46 p.m. A Dustin Road resident reported spotting a large animal on the train tracks near High Street. The police department said officers would look for the animal.
5:51 p.m. An Autumn Lane resident found a large black and silver dog near the intersection of Main Street and Pearl Street. Police contacted the dog's owner, and the Autumn Lane resident returned the dog.
7:17 p.m. A Concord, N.H. man reported that someone stole a laptop, a hard drive, a digital camera, school books and clothes from his vehicle while it was parked in Reading.
7:21 p.m. Police cited Julie Jeffrey, 41, of Stoneham for driving with a suspended license in a vehicle with defective equipment.
8:30 p.m. Police cited Derek Rossi, 21, of Everett for driving with a suspended license in an uninsured vehicle with a revoked registration.
10:15 p.m. An officer encountered three youths with airsoft pistols in the Home Goods parking lot on Main Street. The officer detected alcohol on their breath, and they admitted to drinking earlier in the evening. The officer notified their parents.
