Reading Cooperative Bank Hosts High School Students from Reading Memorial High School

Reading, MA – On November 18th students from Reading Memorial High School’s Retail Banking Course visited Reading Cooperative Bank’s newest location at 55 Walkers Brook Drive in Reading, MA. During their visit the students’ assignment was to brainstorm, develop, and pitch a banking-related product to a panel of bank employees. Mike Foley, Branch Manager at RCB’s RMHS location and teacher of the Retail Banking Course, guided the students as they maneuvered the challenges that come with creating a banking product in less than a day.
“As valuable as it is to teach my students the core principles and concepts within the classroom, it is just as important to allow the students to apply those principles in a real-life scenario. It is a unique experience for my students to hear from RCB employees that have a proven record for excellence, such as our President and CEO, Julieann Thurlow who spoke to the students,” says Mike Foley, Branch Manager at RMHS.
The students were spread out in various privacy coves throughout Reading Cooperative Bank’s office and were busy at work brainstorming ideas, choosing a product/service to pitch, and finally working on their presentation skills. By noon the students had built up quite an appetite and were treated to lunch at Bertuccis, located adjacent to the 55 Walkers Brook Drive office.

After lunch, the students pitched their new products to the employee panel, which was responsible for assessing the presentations based on the strength of the product, quality of presentation, and more. Employees were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of products that the students came up with in such a short period of time. RCB looks forward to hosting students of Mike Foley’s Retail Banking Course in the future.
