Reading Remembers On Memorial Day
Annual parade followed by ceremonies at Laurel Hill, Forest Glen, Wood End, and Charles Lawn Cemeteries.
It was cool and raw but that didn't stop hundreds of Reading residents from turning out Monday for the town's annual Memorial Day Services.
The Main Street parade was led by the Reading Police Department Honor Guard and included the Reading Memorial High School Band, boy scouts, girl scouts, and assorted dignitaries. Following the Parade, Reading's Veteran Services officer Kevin Bohmiller led ceremonies at Laurel Hill.
Father Darin Colarusso gave the invocation followed by speeches from State Senator Jason Lewis, Select Board chair Barry Berman, and US Army Gold Star Father Arthur MacDonald. Jill Mayberry presented the roll call of honor, Mason Haynes read General Logan's Memorial Day General Orders, and Sarah Bacci read Governor Charlie Baker's Memorial Day Proclamation. VFW Post 685 Commander Thomas Fennelly led the placing of the wreath ceremony. In between the speeches, the RMHS band played the national anthem, America the Beautiful, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and finally Taps.
