Regional Update: Medford Police Bust Car Burglar
With a Stoneham resident in the World Series of Poker.

Medford:: A man suspected of multiple car breaks was arrested with the help of a Medford firefighter who spotting him trying to break into his car parked at the High Street fire station. Police K-9s followed a trail of blood allegedly left by Joseph Ross, 43, before an officer working a detail at Kappy's liquors spotted him perusing the shelves about 10:30 Saturday night. He faces 15 charges alleging he broke into eight vehicles and stole a state highway department service van to drive to the liquor store.
Wakefield:
: Marie McNamee, previously an assistant principal at two Westford elementary schools, has been chosen to be the new principal of the Woodville Elementary School. “She’s a seasoned educational leader who will bring a wealth of experience to the school district,” said Wakefield Public Schools Superintendent Joan Landers.
Melrose:
: A 21-year-old Melrose man died from a reported drug overdose on Friday evening during a week in which Melrose Police responded to three reported overdoses. At 8 p.m. on Friday, July 15, Melrose Police received a report of a 21-year-old on the floor at a Clinton Road home from a possible overdose. Melrose firefighters and police officers responded and reported a sudden death on the scene. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said the death is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the state Medical Examiner's office. He declined to comment on the substance involved in the reported overdose, citing the ongoing investigation.
