Resorts North Women's USTA Tennis Team Headed to Nationals!

Local tennis team defies the odds to become New England champions and represent the region in the USTA Nationals in October

Resorts North in North Reading hosted its first-ever USTA tennis team, a women's 3.0 team comprised of local residents and coached by North Reading resident and tennis pro, Matt Tiberii. The team finished first place in local league play, with matches held on Monday nights from May through July. During the weekend of August 12-14, the team faced opponents from throughout the New England area in grueling heat and emerged victorious after four hard-fought matches. They then participated in the USTA sectionals in Springfield, playing three championship teams from August 26-28, and winning the title of New England Sectional Champions.

The team is now practicing and preparing to represent Resorts North and the New England region at the USTA Nationals in Tucson, AZ from October 14-16, where they will face the winning teams from 15 different sections from around the United States. Winning team members include: captains Joan Ferranti (Reading) and Maureen Mullen (Andover), Catherine Berube (Andover), Catherine Bjarngard (Reading), Lori Burke (Reading), Elizabeth Doherty (Winchester), Emily Doherty (North Andover), Kathleen Fenton (North Reading), Csilla Gyurko (Reading), Kelly MacDonald (Reading), Tina Moll (Middleton), Juliann Murphy (Andover), and Janita Powell (Middleton). Congratulations to all the ladies, Matt Tiberii and Resorts North!
