THE MINI-PREVIEW
Division 1: A rematch of the 2016 Super Bowl won by Everett, this one is also a rematch of the opening game of the 2017 season, also won by Everett, 38-7. One positive for the Hawks is their recent play, having beaten their three playoff opponents by a combined score of 107-13.
Division 2: KP is the defending Division 1A Super Bowl champion and the Warriors have won 22 straight games led by Shane Frommer (17 TDs). L-S scored 44.2 ppg this fall, second best among Super Bowl participants.
Division 3: Make that two Hockomock teams playing for a Super Bowl title as North Attleboro will play for its first crown since winning Division 2 in 2002. St. John's (S) scored more than 60 points in three games this fall. The Pioneers also opened the season with a win over CM.
Division 4: This is Melrose's first Super Bowl appearance since losing to Dartmouth in the 2015 Division 3 game. Seniors on Nashoba remember beating Reading in the 2015 Division 2 Super Bowl. The Chieftains allowed the third fewest points in CMass at 9.4 ppg.
Division 5: D-Y's offense is on a roll, averaging almost 43 ppg in the postseason. One reason is running back Bobby Evans, who ran for 400 yards and five touchdowns in the South final. West Springfield has scored 56, 47, 49, 42, and 32 points in its last five wins. The West Siders are seeding to become the first WMass team to win at Gillette.
Division 6: Middleboro rode the dynamic duo of quarterback Evan Gwozdz and running back Jeremy Soule to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1983. Littleton fell to Cohasset in the 2014 Super Bowl, but beat the Skippers in the 2013 title game.
Division 7: Mashpee is making its third straight trip to Gillette Stadium. The Falcons beat Wahconah in last year's Division 4 Super Bowl and beat St. Bernard's in the 2015 Division 6 game. Give Blackstone Valley credit, the Beavers are the only vocational school playing for a Super Bowl title.
Division 8: Millis has been led by Bryce Latosek, who threw for 402 yards in the semifinal win over Cathedral. But really what helps the Mohawks most is playing in the ultra-competitive Tri-Valley League. And in case you're wondering, that wasn't a typo in the CMass/WMass semi. Hoosac Valley actually scored 76 points in the win over Nashoba Tech. That almost a two-point-a-minute pace.
