Top Five Stories of the Week: Assault, Budgets and Moms

Snow and South Africa round out our list.

Here are the stories that we think were the most important to Reading this week.

  1. Pair attacks, robs Reading Commons resident. Police two suspects, including the son of Reading’s “Hockey Dad,” after the victim of the crime that two men beat him with a gun and stole his money.
  2. Board of Selectmen passes budget, residents warn of consequences. Residents suggested that cuts to conservation, public health and elder services could come at , but the board said that tough decisions had to be made. This isn’t the end of the budget process; the budget still needs to go before the finance committee and town meeting.
  3. Snow continues to cost town, schools. Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner said the town’s snow management budget was by $402,000 this week. Wood End students also this week as the district cleared the roof of snow.
  4. Reading native wins in South Africa. James Cerretani and his partner his second Association of Tennis Professionals Tour doubles title in Johannesburg last weekend. We congratulate him on his title.
  5. Meet our moms. Reading Patch introduced its Moms Council this week: Erin Calvo-Bacci, Meghan Cogswell and Alicia Botticelli-Tarasuk. Each week, they will answer your parenting questions.
