Woman Who Caused Fatal 128 Crash Pleads Guilty

Lynn DeWolfe caused the chain reaction crash that killed a father of three minutes after a state trooper let her go from another crash.

WOBURN, MA — A Tyngsborough woman admitted to being under the influence when she caused a fatal chain reaction crash on the Route 128 in 2017 that took the life of a Bedford father of three. Lynne DeWolfe, 52, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Middlesex Superior Court to a host of charges in connection to the death of 42-year-old Christopher Weisz.

DeWolfe pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, 3rd offense, motor vehicle homicide, operating a motor vehicle to endanger and three counts of leaving the scene of property damage. She was sentenced to 3-5 years in state prison followed by 10 years of probation, in addition to other conditions including not applying for the reinstatement of her driver's license during her probation.

The fatal crash occurred the morning of Aug. 24, 2017 - minutes after a Massachusetts State Trooper let DeWolfe go from a separate crash on Route 3 in Burlington. State police withheld that information from prosecutors, The Boston Globe reported.

Prosecutors said less about 15 minutes after she was let go from the crash, she rear-ended another car on 128 North in Reading. The car she struck the median and faced the wrong way in the breakdown lane, driving in the wrong direction before it crashed with a motorcycle driven by Weisz.

DeWolfe fled the scene, causing two more crashes before crashing into the median, prosecutors said.

DeWolfe, who reportedly had a device in her car to keep her from driving drunk, failed sobriety tests and was arrested.
