Creative Home Buying: Looking for a House That's Looking for You
Taking a creative approach to finding the home of your dreams.

Designers and artists often approach their latest creation by first turning things around. Looking at a concept from a different perspective. Asking if the message is the artwork rather than the artwork itself being the message. They might ask “Am I looking for the design or is it looking for me?”
I believe that finding a home is a very similar creative endeavor. Someone seeking to find a new home should turn things around as well. You should ask if you’re the right person for the home. Question if this is the house that truly needs to be in your life. Ponder whether the house is prepared to take care of you.

If you’re looking for a home, you need to look beyond the walls and the roof and envision how the home will treat you as its owner. Can it let the sun into your life? Will it bring you comfort on those dismal nights? Will it be your haven from the high speed lanes of life? Can you count on it to keep your secrets, echo back your voice and keep you rock steady?
As a Realtor, I often counsel my house-hunting clients to see themselves in each room of the property. To look beyond the shiny appliances and glossy floors and really see how their life might play itself out within the four walls. Is that den going to welcome my soft chair and reading lamp? Will that window be my lens into my new neighborhood? Can the bedroom become my new nest?
See yourself laughing in the kitchen; whispering in front of the fireplace; dozing on the window bench. Living out your new life in a house you hope to make your home. It’s only really then and only then that you can say that you’ve really found the place you want to call your own.
