Birch St. House & Garden is excited to announce the arrival of a
new artist in June. Michael Dean, a North End Boston painter, is debuting a
collection of his landscapes and still-life oil paintings for sale at an
opening reception on Friday, June 6 from 6-9PM. Please join us for an evening
of art, music and mingling.
Dean is a (mostly) self-taught oil painter whose early childhood was
spent in the beautiful seaside artistsʼ colony of Rockport, MA, surrounded by a
family of artists and aspiring painters.
This early up-bringing fostered his natural talent and sparked a
life-long interest in art, a nostalgia for the smells of linseed oil &
turpentine, and a fascination with perspective, composition, and light effects
as rendered with an artistʼs brush.

A 17-year resident of Bostonʼs North End neighborhood, Dean draws on
the areaʼs American history roots and its Italian immigrant legacy to inspire
some of his oil paintings. His weekly drawing sessions at the MFA, along with
his many trips to Italy and Sicily, inspire other works.
Those paintings, as well as his many other portfolios, can be seen
by visiting his flickr site: http://flickr.com/photos/michaeldeanart
