RIDES ARE INVITE-ONLY: North Pole Express to Roll Out of South Station

The annual holiday event is on Saturday, Dec. 6 this year.

About 600 children and their families from across Boston will board an MBTA Commuter Rail train this Saturday and be transported to the North Pole as part of this annual holiday tradition sponsored by the MBTA, Keolis Commuter Services and MassDOT.

The train ride is invite-only.

Head to the South Station concourse on Saturday, Dec. 6 to watch. The event is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The train ride begins at 4 p.m.

According to a recent press release, celebrity readers will read Chris Van Allsburg’s The Polar Express during the trip, and Santa Claus will pay a visit when the train reaches the North Pole (represented by Weymouth Landing on the Greenbush Line).

Other sponsors include Equity Office, South Station, Standard Modern Company and Au Bon Pain, which donated hot chocolate and treats for the annual event.
