Running the Distance for Suicide Prevention

Local Woman Running the Boston Marathon for Suicide Prevention

On April 20th, local resident Jesse Danielle Gass will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Samaritans, a suicide prevention organization. Based in Boston, Samaritans aims to reduce the incidence of suicide by alleviating despair, isolation, distress, and suicidal feelings among individuals in the community. Jesse is running in memory of her cousin, Danny, who took his own life at the age of twenty-four. She says, “When our society stigmatizes and fails to discuss suicide and mental illness, it makes it much harder for people to access the services that they need, which is why the hotlines, counseling, and support groups that Samaritans offers are so important. I believe that together we can play a small part in shedding light on these subjects, which are too often cast in darkness.” You can donate to Jesse’s marathon campaign here : https://www.crowdrise.com/SamaritansBoston2015/fundraiser/jessegass
