2,000 Set To Graduate From Salem State

From Salem State: Over 2,000 students will receive their graduate or undergraduate degrees from Salem State University this year, with about 1,850 planning to cross the Commencement stage this week.

Three ceremonies this week will mark the university’s 209th Commencement exercises. Below is a rundown of this year’s ceremonies, speakers, and some key facts about Salem State University’s 2019 graduates. Members of the media must present credentials at the door. Members of the general public must present tickets.

CEREMONIES AND SPEAKERS

Thursday, May 16

4 pm – Graduate Ceremony

Speaker: Tarana Burke, founder of the ‘me too.’ movement and social justice activist

Saturday, May 18

10 am – Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services and the Bertolon School of Business

Speaker: Jonathan Blodgett, Essex District Attorney

3 pm – College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education

Speaker: William G. Gross, Police Commissioner of the City of Boston

LOCATION

Salem State University’s graduations will all be held at the university’s O’Keefe Complex at 225 Canal Street in Salem, MA.

QUICK FACTS

· Over 2,000 students will receive undergraduate or graduate degrees this year.

· The vast majority of 2019 graduates are Massachusetts residents, representing 242 cities and towns across the state. Overall, 30 countries are represented along with 28 states and Puerto Rico.

· Members of Salem State’s 2019 graduating class range from ages 20 to 69.

· Of the 555 graduate students receiving master’s degrees, over 200 are previous Salem State graduates.

· 51 students are receiving graduate degrees through one of Salem State’s 4+1 programs, which allows students to receive a master’s degree in one year following completion of a four-year degree.
