5 Dates You Need to Know on the Salem Public Schools Calendar

Here are five dates you should be aware of on the Salem Public Schools calendar.

SALEM, MA — The 2016-2017 school year is almost here, and while students may be dreading it, the time has come to make preparations for the upcoming school year.

Bentley students in grades 1-5 begin school on Aug. 22. Bentley Kindergarten and Carlton's grade 1-5 students will begin school on August 29. Students in grades 1-12 Bates, Bowditch, Collins, Horace Mann, Saltonstall, Witchcraft Heights, Salem High School and Salem Prep High School will begin classes on Sept. 7, and Kindergarten at Bates, Bowditch, Horace Mann, Saltonstall and Witchcraft Heights will begin on Sept. 9.

Here are five other important dates on the Salem public schools calendar that you should be aware of during the first few months of the year.

  1. Sept. 15: Carlton and Collins Middle School open house
  2. Sept. 22: Salem Special Education Parental Advisory Committee Open Forum with Superintendent Ruiz in the School Committee chambers at 6:30 p.m.
  3. Sept. 23: Early release for professional development (except Carlton, which has an early release day Sept. 21)
  4. Sept. 18: Collins Middle School Family Picnic (noon to 3 p.m.)
  5. Oct. 7: Professional Development, Early Release (except Carlton, which has an early release day on Oct.
