Saturday's warmish fall weather, with a slight breeze, was perfect for a walk around Salem Woods.
The drums and horns of the Salem High band practicing nearby made a nice accompaniment for the hour and 15 minutes it took for our leisurely walk.
The area is popular with dog walkers and families. Trails lead through low areas bridged by wooden walkways up to bluffs overlooking marshland teeming with life.
It's an area entirely within the city limits where urban Salemites can replenish our nature deficits.
