Back To School: Salem 2023-24 School Calendar

SALEM, MA — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Salem, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day at Salem High School, Collins Middle School, Saltonstall School and the elementary schools.

The first day of school for most students in Salem is Aug. 29.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

Salem Public Schools

First Day: Aug. 28 for Salem High Grade 9, Salem Prep Grade 9, Carlton School

Aug. 29 for remaining grades 1-12

Sept. 5 for kindergarten and preschool

Labor Day Break: Sept. 1 through Sept. 4

Halloween Break: Oct. 30-31

Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 23 through Nov. 26 (early release on Nov. 22)

Winter Break: Dec. 22 through Jan. 2

February Break: Feb. 19 through Feb. 23

April Break: April 15 through April 19

HS Graduation Day: June 7

Last Day: June 17 with no snow days

No School Days: Labor Day break Sept. 1 through Sept. 4, Yom Kippur Sept. 25, Primary Election Day Sept. 26, Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day Oct. 9, Veterans Day Nov. 10, Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 15, Good Friday March 29, Memorial Day May 27. Juneteenth (if the school year is extended) June 19.
