will be narrating “Jefferson: A Vision For America” with the
North Shore Concert Band on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:00 PM. Salem State
University educator Cynthia Napierkowski will be conducting the band
at the Robert Hayes Bandstand in historic Salem Willows. This concert
is a celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding
of Salem and the 250th birthday of the United States.

The Jefferson piece is the work of
composer and educator Robert W. Smith. It showcases the writings of
Thomas Jefferson on educational rights, which are spoken by members
of the band.

The North Shore Concert Band is made up
of active members of the Boston Musicians Union Local 9-535. They
primarily play free concerts at Salem Willows.

“Here’s to life!” Fans around the world can be found singing the chorus of the Roger Clyne-penned fan favorite “Mekong” and toasting their glasses in unison to celebrate life through rock-n-roll. But the inspiration for the song dates back to the time Roger went to Taipei, Taiwan, as a college student to teach English during the day and busk with his guitar at night for money.
Today, as Clyne prepares to release his 11th studio album, he continues to transform his life experiences, inspirations, observations and his own muses into timeless music. For centuries the folklore of the Swiss Alps has captured the imagination: cautionary tales and legends of castles and deep forests where giants roam freely and sinister black hounds lurk in wait for unsuspecting villagers walking home. Explore this otherworldly era with us in the Athenaeum garden on July 2 at 6pm.
As part of their U.S. book launch, Rachel TonThat and Tobias Bärtsch will read from Die Alp an sich, their bilingual collection that translates folklore from the Sarganserland region in eastern Switzerland into English and high German for the first time. The book dwells on these stories and how they have evolved over time, pairing their retellings with historical source texts and contextual explanations. 
Following their reading, Aida Feng, Visiting Assistant Professor of German at the College of the Holy Cross, will moderate a discussion with TonThat and Bärtsch about the reframing of these tales and the evolution of the project from a simple translation into a feminist and environmentally conscious engagement with the source materials.

 that this event is only possible because the Marblehead Fireworks 
Committee is an all-volunteer organization, and the fireworks display is
 100% privately funded via donations. 
Riverhead Beach is at the far end of the harbor.However, it is a&nbsp;straight shot down harbor to see the fireworks. You will be able to see&nbsp;both sides of the Harbor Illumination from here.Fort Sewall will be one of the very best locations to see the Fireworks&nbsp;and Illumination of the Harbor. It is sure to become very crowded and it&nbsp;is suggested that you plan to arrive as early as possible to get a good&nbsp;spot.Fort Beach (Flat Rock Beach to the locals) is another great location to&nbsp;see the Fireworks and Illumination of the Harbor. However, due to it&nbsp;being such a great vantage point, it will become very crowded. It is&nbsp;suggested that you plan to arrive as early as possible to get a good&nbsp;spot.Crocker Park offers splendid panoramas of the entire harbor. Crocker&nbsp;Park is where we "Count Down The Fireworks". Plenty of benches, grassy&nbsp;areas, and of course, rocks.Chandler Hovey Park is one of the best vantage points to see the&nbsp;Fireworks and Illumination of the Harbor. However, due to its great&nbsp;popularity, it will become very crowded and it is suggested that you&nbsp;plan to arrive as early as possible.

Swampscott Garden Music Gathering Continues to Cultivate Connections
Music, gardens, art, and community will come together on Sunday, July 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Linscott Park for the Swampscott Garden Music Gathering—a free afternoon overlooking the ocean celebrating creativity, nature, and neighborly connections.&nbsp;
The festivities begin at 1:00 p.m. with a lively community drum circle led by Philip Alexander, who will provide a variety of drums and percussion instruments for everyone to enjoy. No experience is necessary—participants of all ages are invited to join in and make music together.
At 2:00 p.m., Tom Reid, Paul Todisco, and Wendy Linkin of The Boomerangs will perform favorite hits from the 1960s and 1970s. Then, at 2:30 p.m., Mike Brison and Philip Alexander will perform a mix of classic favorites. Local musicians are encouraged to bring an instrument, play a tune, or simply join the fun.
In between sets, Grab the Bagel, a non-profit social enterprise, will be donating Assorted Bagel Bites with Cream Cheese and lemonade for guests, along with bagel sandwiches for each musician. Owner, Dave Aldrich, believes in “random acts of bagels.”&nbsp; All proceeds of Grab the Bagel fund local causes — from Make-A-Wish projects for sick children in Marblehead to donations for the Marblehead Counseling Center, police and fire stations, and the Temple Emanu-El’s Taste of the North Shore.
Gardeners are invited to participate in an optional Surprise Garden Swap. Bring a small tote bag containing a garden treasure—perhaps a plant, cutting, flowers, herbs, berries, or vegetables—and exchange it for another surprise from a fellow gardener.
Guests are also invited to sketch, write, or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. A limited number of complimentary sketch pads, small journals, and pencils will be available while supplies last.
Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket, your favorite musical instrument, a sketchbook, or simply yourself. Whether you'd like to sing along, create art, chat with neighbors, or enjoy a peaceful summer afternoon by the ocean, everyone is welcome.
The Garden Music Gathering is a new chapter inspired by the beloved Swampscott Garden Art Walk, originally founded by ReachArts. Over the years, the Garden Art Walk welcomed visitors into private gardens throughout town and sparked countless friendships among gardeners, artists, musicians, and neighbors.
While this year's event does not include the traditional garden stroll, it continues the Garden Art Walk's spirit of bringing people together. The goal is simple: reconnect old friends, welcome new ones, and continue cultivating the friendships and community connections that have grown through Swampscott's gardening, music, and arts community.
Come relax, reconnect, create, and celebrate a summer afternoon where music, gardens, and friendship continue to bloom.
