Cinema Salem Free Star Trek Screening To Honor Late Actress

Thursday's two free screenings are to honor the memory of actress and Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols, who died on July 30.

SALEM, MA — Cinema Salem will pay homage to late across and Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols at the same time it provides science fiction fans with a cool place to stay out of Thursday's extreme heat with a pair of free showings.

Cinema Salem will screen "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" at noon and 3 p.m. Both shows are free of charge with no tickets needed.

Nichols, who died on July 30, played Lieutenant Uhura in the original Star Trek TV series and reprised the role on the big screen in the movie.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and the concession stand will be open.
