Construction of New Parking Lot near Old Salem Jail to Begin Monday

Residents are urged to drive with care around what will active construction site.

SALEM, MA — Construction of the new parking lot in front of the Old Salem Jail is set to begin Monday, which may present traffic challenges within the area.

According to BuildingSalem.com, the city's information initiative for construction projects, work is expected to take around four weeks, weather permitting, to complete. The lot will be constructed around the existing access road from Bridge Street into the jail, and is set to feature 17 public parking spaces.

Work 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. , and the city has approved the contractor to work on Saturdays and Sundays. Residents are asked to drive at reduced speeds and to be careful when driving or walking around the area.
