Costumed Babies Meet Caregivers at North Shore Medical Center

Babies were reconnected with their caregivers at the NSMC's Special Care Nursery, who provide care for babies who need specialized services.

SALEM, MA — A group of costumed babies were reconnected with the caregivers who helped deliver them at North Shore Medical Center this weekend.

According to the Salem hospital, babies were reconnected with caregivers from the North Shore Medical Center's Special Care Nursery. The special care nursery provides medical monitoring and specialized services to babies in need that are not normally provided in standard maternity rooms.

“The Special Care Nursery staff looks forward to this event every year,” said Suzanne Nevins, R.N., NSMC neonatal nurse in a statement. “There is nothing more incredible than seeing a patient, who you cared for as a fragile baby, come to the event as a strong, healthy child.”

According to the hospital, hundreds of babies were admitted to the hospital's recently-renovated Special Care Nursery.

“We’re with these patients and their families for the first days or weeks of their lives and see them through some complex health problems, which can be a very stressful time for both the patient and their families,” NSMC’s outgoing Chief of Newborn Medicine Sanjay Aurora, M.D. said in a statement. “So to get to reunite with them and see how the babies have grown and thrived is an extremely rewarding feeling, and a memory I’ll cherish as I say farewell to NSMC.”
